Load Management Program

Central Electric offers two different load control programs: managing solely the electric water heater or controlling electric heating systems. If you allow us to control your electric water heater we will install a demand response unit (DRU).  The DRU interrupts power to the tank during peak usage times in which you receive a $2.50 credit on your monthly electric bill.  The credit does not apply to those purchasing a water heater from us.  If you allow us to control your electric heating system (baseboard, electric heating or heat pumps) you will receive a 40 percent reduced rate for the energy used by your electric heating system. Contact us at 1-800-521-0570 ext. 2172 for more information and start saving today! To participate in our Load Management program where we interrupt your electric heating system you must:

  • Use electric heat (baseboard, electric furnace or heat pump) as your primary heating source.
  • Install a second distribution panel and service entrance for separate metering
  • Allow heating/cooling system and electric water heater to be interrupted during peaks (electric clothes dryer and hot tub are optional)

Control Periods Weekdays only

  • Winter: Typically between 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Summer: Typically between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Control hours may be extended as needed.  No weekends or major holiday interruptions.

  • Seasonal variations: Spring and fall usually have a greater frequency of interruptions than winter and summer.  The average number of monthly control days is seven.
