2023 Rate Change

Thursday | December 1, 2022

Central Electric Cooperative (CEC) regrets to inform members that they will see on average a 15% rate increase on their electric bill that is rendered after January 1, 2023.

The rate change is mainly caused by a dramatic increase in generation and transmission costs. CEC purchases power from Allegheny Electric Cooperative who has ownership in generation assets that supply 60%-70% of CEC's energy needs. The rest of CEC's power supply comes from the open market which has seen volatility and upward pressure over the past year.

After thoughtful and deliberate consideration of the increase in power supply costs and their impact on the financial stability of CEC, CEC's Board of Directors approved the rate change at the November board meeting.

CEC would like to remind all members that a variety of energy assistance options are available and can be viewed here. Additionally, members struggling to pay their bills are encouraged to call CEC at 800-521-0570 to discuss energy assistance and/or payment arrangements.

If you'd like more information about the circumstances forcing CEC's rate increase or ways to save energy, please refer to CEC's monthly newsletter

As we all continue to navigate inflation in all aspects of our lives, please remember CEC is here for you and don't hesitate to contact us if you need assistance.
