Severe storms and high winds tore through Western PA

Wednesday | April 30, 2025

Storms brought strong winds, large hail, and heavy rain to western Pennsylvania, along with the risk of isolated tornadoes on the evening of Tuesday, April 29th and through the night.

The severe weather caused widespread outages throughout Central Electric Cooperative’s (CEC) service territory. Outages climbed to approximately 3,100 at the height of the storms. Of those 3,100 outages, approximately 2,700 outages were due to a single power supply point at the Clearfield substation. While that power supply has not been restored, CEC crews restored power to those members through the process of back feeding.

Crews worked through the night and made substantial progress, currently, CEC has 14 outages. All available crews are dispatched.

CEC encourages members to report all outages.

CEC thanks members for their patience while crews are working efficiently and safely to restore power.

More updates will be published as information is gathered from the field.
